Correction to “County Proposes New Development Rules”
The press release from the County Executive’s office regarding multi-family zoning issued on January 23, 2007 contains an error. It states that the recent vote adding an additional 90 acres of LDMR zoning was passed by a 5-0 margin. That is not correct. The vote on that issue was 4-1 with Councilmember Dave Gossett voting “no”.
Councilmember Gossett has taken a leading role in addressing the need for new regulations for LDMR development. During the fall he worked with stakeholders to develop a set of standards for these developments. The Council’s Planning Committee reviewed those standards during the fall and directed Council staff to draft code amendments. The Planning and Development Services proposal largely follows those amendments.
“The language I provided to Planning and Development Services in December is essentially the same as the proposals on roads, walkways, safety, and parking which were discussed with the Planning Commission,” said Gossett, who addressed the Commission at its recent meeting. “The department is not currently planning on including standards for open space or design. I intend to offer those standards as amendments for the Commission’s review at its next meeting.”
