A Democratic
Precinct Committee Officer, PCO, is the elected neighborhood representative of the Democratic Party. A precinct consists of 300 to 600 registered voters, or about 180 to 360 households. PCOs run for office on the September, Primary Election Ballot in even numbered years. The next election will be in September 2006 unless election reform change the Primary date.

PCO RESPONSIBILITIES
- A PCO must represent democrats in his/her precinct, chair their precinct caucus every two years, and vote elect Officers of the Local Democratic Organization every January following their election.
In general, PCOs are responsible for helping promote democratic candidates and issues in their neighborhoods. This may mean:

Writing a letter to voters in your precinct to share your opinions, ideas and reasons on candidates and issues

Going door-to-door, handing out candidate information (doorbelling/leafleting) in some cases it may be necessary to have help or mail support.

Calling people in your precinct to encourage them to vote (Get-Out-The-Vote/GOTV)

Helping to find yard sign locations and putting up and maintaining yard signs.

Writing letters-to-the-editor.

Attending meetings to obtain information on issues and to meet candidates and elected officials.

It's simple for to apply. Your appointment will be from the time you are approved until General Election in 2006.

Next, print out the application for the county where you live. Fill out the application, making sure you sign and date it on the bottom. Next, mail the application to:
Your application will be considered at the next First District meeting, the 1st Thursday of the month. After district approval, your application will be sent to the appropriate county Party for approval.

PCO TOOLS
The tools PCO's have to work with are better now than they have ever been. We have current voter lists available in printed and computerized forms. These lists have the latest information on voters in your precinct. With these lists you can help your voters choose the forms of communication they find most convenient and meaningful. Now they have a choice of email, phone, personal, or all three. The First District can also have you will samples of many forms of communication. Join the group and meet new and exciting people while you make a difference in your city, county, district, state and nation.
